From Belysningsbolaget to Bsweden - History & awards

From the beginning, Bsweden Belysningsbolaget was only called Belysningsbolaget . 17 letters long and also in Swedish, it was next to impossible to even try to pronounce for someone in a country where English is the mother tongue. In the spur of the moment it was transformed into Bsweden, which also prompted a quick name change.

The company was started and founded in 1993 by Gunnel Svensson. Over the years, Bsweden's design lamps have been shipped from the small factory in Småland's Herråkra to all corners of the world. Worth mentioning in this context is the over 6 meter long specially designed version of Peter Nilsson's glass chandelier - Kumulus, which is housed in the Harrod's department store in London.

Among the later additions of Swedish craftsmanship in hand-blown and hand-made glass, there are, among others, the glass artist and glass designer Anna Berglund's collections Valborg and Tratten .

    Bsweden's founder Gunnel Svensson

Gunnel, who was born in Lammhult, literally grew up among interior design and furniture, at the family business Svensson's furniture. After growing up, Gunnel has devoted time to e.g. art studies at Atlantic College in Wales and studied industrial design at the Scuola Politecnica di Design in Milan etc.

The effect of the trainings was that Gunnel, in his third decade, was able to take a position as responsible for exhibition design in Bad Salzufeln in Germany. There she planned and designed fair stands for the major furniture fairs around Germany. During the active years down on the continent, there were about a hundred exhibitions.

By 1993, it was finally time (with hindsight and looking in the rearview mirror) for Gunnel to found Belysningsbolaget Bsewden AB. In Bsweden's range, Gunnel can be seen with his own design in the collections - Egg , Clover , Soho and last but not least Manhattan which is one of the company's absolute best sellers.
